About the job

In collaboration with Chalmers, Medfield offers this industrial PhD student position with the following research question: “How do we apply AI and machine learning to the diagnostics of trauma and stroke patients in pre-hospital settings.” You will be connected to a research group at Chalmers with growing research activities within AI and machine learning. The entire society is experiencing an explosion of activities within AI and machine learning and Chalmers is part of this development through funding initiatives from the Wallenberg foundation and Chalmers foundations. As a machine-learning industrial PhD student, you are also expected to have a vital role in the R&D team at the company and contribute to solve problems and identify improvements using measurements, simulations and theoretical analysis. Your main area of responsibility is the planning and development of machine learning methods on all levels, from preprocessing and data handling to benchmarking, verification and deployment. You will also communicate with our clinical trial centers to ensure the integrity, quality and structure of clinical data.  Apart from your main focus area, you may also be involved in other required tasks at Medfield, e.g. writing specifications or performing verifications.


  • A M.Sc. with a great interest in and a basic knowledge in machine-learning and classification algorithm development.
  • Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python.
  • Proficiency in machine learning packages such as scikit-learn and Keras is advantageous.
  • Ability to clearly express yourself orally and written in English.

We are interested in new graduates as well as you who have worked some years in machine learning or a similar area and are interested in pursuing PhD studies.

To be successful in this role you need to be analytic and pay attention to details. You are able to handle uncertainty, are open to change and like a challenge. You also have an innovative mind and takes own initiatives.
